Like many species of bees, Japanese honeybees must worry about attacks from hornets. When a hornet scout enters a hive, a mob of bees will form a ball around the hornet and move around so much that it causes the hornet to be almost powerless and also causes the temperature to rise so much that the hornet cannot tolerate it.
Bees are so smart!
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting, and reminds yet again that I don't like Japanese Bees, American Bees, Belgian Bees or any other kind in life. Just give me the honey, please. lol Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteI did not know that hornets would attack bees. Poor Honeybees. We need our honeybees!!
ReplyDeleteThey sure know how to put a stop to them
ReplyDeleteVery cool. I love bees.
ReplyDeleteWow this is really cool. Bees are so intelligent and people seem to forget that.
ReplyDeleteInstinct has served bees well over millions of years. I hope we're not bringing about their destruction with pesticides. Most of our food requires bee pollination.
ReplyDeletefascinating, thanks Adam
ReplyDeleteThat's really incredible!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that, Adam! We've been co-existing with a colony of honey bees in a pillar supporting our deck. As long as they (and the homeowners association) don't bother us, we're okay with live and let live. I'm exhausted from trying to find someone to extract and save them.
